How the calculation works

Stitched area in inches = stitches ÷ (fabric count ÷ over threads). Fabric cut size = stitched area + margin × 2. Always round up if you are unsure.

What fabric count should I use?

14-count Aida is common for beginners. 16 and 18 count make a smaller finished piece. Linen and evenweave are often stitched over 2.

How much margin should I add?

2 to 3 inches per side is standard for framing. Small ornaments may need less.
